The Administration of State Material Reserves of the SR Releases Protective Equipment to Manage the Foot-and-Mouth Disease Emergency

On the basis of active and close mutual cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior of the SR and at its request, the Administration of State Material Reserves of the Slovak Republic arranged the release of personal protective equipment in response to the declared emergency caused by the occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease in the territory of the Slovak Republic.

The equipment released comprises essential protective items, including protective suits, gloves, shoe covers and protective caps. These items are intended to protect persons intervening in the affected areas and to support preventive measures aimed at stopping the spread of the infection.

Foot-and-mouth disease is a highly contagious viral disease affecting farm animals, above all cattle, sheep, goats and pigs. Its occurrence can have serious economic consequences for the agricultural sector and the food security of the country. It is therefore essential that preventive measures be taken in good time to minimise the risk of the virus spreading.

The protective equipment released will be distributed to the relevant units deployed in the field, which are carrying out health-protection measures and eliminating outbreak sites with the aim of managing the situation effectively.

In line with its competences, the Administration of State Material Reserves of the SR plays an important role in crisis management and in securing strategic stocks, and stands ready to respond promptly to further requests for the provision of the reserves needed to manage this situation.

The Administration of State Material Reserves Successfully Defended the Title of Effective CAF User

The Administration of State Material Reserves of the Slovak Republic (ASMR SR) constantly strives to optimise its activities and seeks ways to improve, in particular in the areas of internal organisation, increasing the efficiency of processes and improving the quality of the services provided. For this reason, we decided to implement the CAF model, a European tool for the continuous improvement of public administration.

In 2023, the second self-assessment cycle began at the ASMR SR, during which the members of the CAF team identified the organisation’s strengths and areas with potential for improvement. These areas were set out in the self-assessment report prepared under the CAF model. After the self-assessment process was completed, an On-Site Assessment was carried out in September 2023 by external quality management experts. The aim of this phase was to obtain an external view of the self-assessment process. On the basis of the report received, the ASMR SR gained a further valuable source of information on areas for improvement, which moved the organisation forward.

The next step was the preparation of an Improvement Action Plan, which drew not only on the self-assessment data but also on suggestions from the office’s employees. This plan was approved in October 2024 and contained six specific improvement activities.

To confirm the correct direction and application of the CAF model, we asked the Slovak Office of Standards, Metrology and Testing (UNMS SR) to carry out an External Feedback assessment, during which the ASMR SR CAF team provided the assessors with maximum assistance. On the basis of the successful assessment and the fulfilment of all criteria, the Slovak Office of Standards, Metrology and Testing (UNMS SR) awarded the ASMR SR the title of Effective CAF User. This internationally recognised title confirms the successful implementation of the CAF model in the organisation.

The title was presented to the Secretary-General of the Service Office, Dagmar Benická, by Anna Budiaková, Director of the Quality and Project Management Department of the UNMS SR.

Christmas Collection for Those Facing Hard Times

We have once again shown the size of our hearts, and that the fates of other people and helping others are not matters of indifference to us. In a voluntary collection organised as part of our social responsibility activities, we managed to raise a handsome sum in a short time – as much as EUR 1,050.

The original intention was to help four mothers with children in a difficult life situation and in material need, who are accommodated at the Centre for Family Renewal – Úsmev ako dar (A Smile as a Gift).

As we were truly generous and the collection was very successful, we decided to share it. In addition to the four families mentioned, to whom we provided long-life food and toiletries, we supported the non-profit organisation Plamienok, which provides home palliative treatment and care to incurably ill children, with a financial donation. We also supported the St. Anthony Centre for Children and Families in Rohožník by buying Christmas presents.

The long-life food and toiletries purchased

On 4 December, the Secretary-General of the Service Office, together with members of the social responsibility team, handed over the prepared aid on behalf of all employees directly at the Centre for Family Renewal – Úsmev ako dar in Petržalka. The handover was also attended by the director of the Úsmev ako dar civic association and the head of the Centre.

Subsequently, on 5 December, the Chairman and the Secretary-General of the Service Office, together with a member of the social responsibility team, handed over a financial donation to the director of the non-profit organisation Plamienok to support its activities, which consist of providing incurably ill and grieving children with home palliative treatment and care free of charge, thereby contributing to improving the quality of their lives.

We provided a contribution towards presents for the children of the St. Anthony Centre for Children and Families in Rohožník, which provides residential care for 13 children.

Those we helped at Úsmev ako dar also thanked us for our assistance in a post on the social network Facebook

The director of Plamienok thanked us by e-mail on behalf of the children and her colleagues

On behalf of the St. Anthony Centre for Children and Families in Rohožník, the director expressed great thanks on behalf of the children and wished us all a joyful, peaceful and blessed holiday season.

We are delighted to have helped mothers with children in material need, and the children themselves, to have at least a slightly richer and more beautiful Christmas, and also to have shown humanity: with our financial donation we helped improve the quality of care for child patients, demonstrating that helping others is not foreign to us.
