On 11 October 2012, members of the Rescue Brigade of the Fire and Rescue Corps in Žilina, Humenné and Malacky carried out an exercise for the purpose of improving the activities and practical experience of the members of the Fire and Rescue Corps in the construction of flood barrier walls. The event took place at the instigation of the Administration of State Material Reserves of the Slovak Republic in cooperation with the Presidium of the Fire and Rescue Corps.
The venue of the exercise was the car park by the Žilina water works, where the members simulated the conditions of the flooding of an area by torrential water and tested the flood barrier walls in retaining it. At the same time, the participants of the exercise and the invited guests from state and self-government authorities, as well as students of the Faculty of Special Engineering in Žilina, heard what the further possibilities of using these flood control means are when they are deployed during the emergence of crisis situations and during the carrying out or provision of rescue work during a crisis situation.
The exercise pointed to the great importance of such events for improving the preparedness and cooperation of the members of the Fire and Rescue Corps with the Administration of State Material Reserves in protecting the health, lives and property of the citizens of the Slovak Republic.
